We really love the area we have settled into in London. We focused our flat search in Southwest London as it had the best transportation routes for Mike’s work commute and to get to central London. We looked at a few surrounding districts, but felt at home in Wimbledon. For us, it is the perfect mix of shops, places to eat and green space. It is comprised of Wimbledon Village and Town. Wimbledon Village is one of London’s few true London Villages with boutique shops, cafes and the odd horse trotting past. At the end of the Village High street is Wimbledon Common, one of London’s largest green spaces. It offers over 1000 acres of nature and wildlife to explore.
Wimbledon town has more shops, restaurants and amenities, as well as the train station. Pretty much everything we need is within walking distance. And although there are days I miss having a car, we have not needed one due to our close proximity to the train and all the amenities in town.
I can’t forget to mention the world famous Wimbledon Tennis Championships that take place every summer. We hope we are lucky enough to attend a few matches this summer. Every address in the area can enter a lottery to buy centre court tickets, or simply line up on the day of for admission.
We hear there are quite a few celebrities who call Wimbledon home, like tennis star Boris Becker and author Sophie Kinsella, although I have not had any sightings yet! Mike and I are enjoying settling into the community and I am trying to connect with other mom’s to be in the area.
